Calypso Bench

This bench is designed by India Foster and built using reclaimed mahogany and limestone. The legs are cut from solid pieces of stone with tenons that perfectly fit into the wood top. In this mortise and tenon joint, the tenon is designed to extend through the mortise (the hole it fits into) creating an elegant juxtaposition of materials. Dominican limestone is formed from compressed ancient reefs, so corals are visible on the surface of the stone. The seat is made from a reclaimed urban mahogany tree and is finished with a natural oil and wax to highlight the natural beauty of the wood.
